Compression class
Three strengths, chosen for the job
Compression is measured in mmHg. The right class depends on your diagnosis and what your prescriber has asked for — we'll check the prescription and make sure the garment matches it.
Mild
Tired, aching or heavy legs, mild swelling, travel and long periods of standing. Often the starting point.
Moderate
The most commonly prescribed class — venous insufficiency, varicose veins, and lymphedema maintenance.
Firm
More significant swelling, venous ulceration history, and lymphedema needing stronger containment.

Ready-to-wear garments come in standard sizes and are fitted from your measurements. If your measurements fall outside the size chart, a custom flat knit garment is the answer — we'll tell you which you need.

A compression garment only works if it fits. How we measure you depends on where you are — and either way, it gets done properly before anything is ordered.

A Certified Compression Therapist measures you in our private consultation suite — a separate room with a door that closes. No charge to be measured. Walk-ins and appointments are both welcome, and some items are in stock, so what you need may be here today.

Too far to travel?
Most patients are measured by their lymphedema therapist or clinic, who send the measurements along with the progress note. If your provider doesn't have measurements and you don't live near the store, get in touch — we'll work out the best way to get you fitted.
Ordering
How to order
Send us three things
- Demographic page — patient and insurance information.
- Progress note — supporting the need for compression. Must include a diagnosis of lymphedema.
- What you'd like ordered — manufacturer, model, color, quantity and size.
- We contact your patient within two business days of referral
- We gather the documentation — no chart-note chasing for your office
- We handle intake, verification, prior authorization, billing and appeals
- We confirm back to you once your patient is fitted
Getting started
- Ask your provider. Compression garments and pumps are prescribed. Ask your doctor, nurse practitioner or therapist to send a prescription and chart notes to Midwest Compression.
- We take it from there. We verify your insurance and request authorization where it's needed, and contact you within two business days.
- Stop in and be fitted. A Certified Compression Therapist measures you in our private suite.
- We keep you supplied. We handle billing, appeals and refills, and track when you're eligible for replacements.
What to bring: your prescription if you have a copy, insurance cards and photo ID, and your provider's name and phone number. If you already wear compression, bring a list — brand, size, quantity and dates received.
Coverage
What insurance typically covers
Most insurers have followed the Lymphedema Treatment Act, which created a benefit category for doctor-prescribed compression items. We work with these benefits every day and can explain what your plan covers.
Please note: compression socks, stockings and other ready-to-wear garments are cash pay. Insurance coverage generally applies to garments prescribed for a specific diagnosis such as lymphedema — ask us and we will check.

Midwest Compression is not billing Medicare or Medicaid at this time. All insurance plans vary, and most cover garments only with a specific diagnosis such as lymphedema. Cash pay is available for patients who do not fit insurance criteria. HSA and FSA cards and all major credit cards are accepted.
