Compression stockings: knee-high, thigh-high and pantyhose

Ready-to-wear graduated compression, fitted in person by a Certified Compression Therapist at our store in Richland, Michigan.

Graduated compression is tightest at the ankle and eases as it moves up the leg. That gradient is what helps move fluid upward. It only works if the garment matches the limb, which is why we measure rather than estimate from shoe size or height.

Knee-high

The most commonly worn length, and the right starting point for most swelling below the knee. Easier to put on than longer lengths, cooler in summer, and enough for many people with venous insufficiency or mild to moderate lower leg swelling.

Thigh-high

For swelling that continues above the knee. Available with silicone bands or grip tops to stop them sliding down, which is the usual reason people abandon thigh-highs. Getting the thigh measurement right matters more here than anywhere else.

Pantyhose and chaps

Full-length compression for bilateral swelling, or when swelling extends into the upper thigh and hip. Maternity styles are available. Chaps style covers one leg with a waist attachment when only one side is affected.

Compression classes

We fit 15-20 mmHg, 20-30 mmHg and 30-40 mmHg. Your clinician's prescription determines the class. Higher is not better, and a class that is too high often ends up in a drawer.

Brands we fit

Jobst, Juzo, medi and circaid, Sigvaris, and L&R Solaris.

If ready-to-wear will not fit

Standard sizing is built around average proportions. When a limb does not match those averages, a custom flat knit garment is measured and knitted for that limb specifically. We fit both, so the conversation starts with the measurements rather than with what happens to be in stock.
