Lymphedema
Lymphedema: swelling that doesn’t go away
Lymphedema is long-lasting swelling in an arm, leg or other part of the body. An estimated 3–5 million Americans have it, and many don’t know it yet. Compression is a key part of treatment — and our certified fitters make sure it fits and feels right.
Lymphedema in plain words
When your lymph system can’t drain fluid well, it builds up and causes swelling
What it is
Your lymph system
A network of thin vessels and nodes that carries extra fluid out of your arms, legs and body. It works like a drain.
When the drain is damaged
If vessels or nodes are missing, damaged or overloaded, fluid backs up. The swelling stays, and can slowly get worse without treatment.
